Photography Exposure Basics
Exposure is the amount of light collected by the sensor in your camera during a single picture. If the shot is exposed too long the photograph will be washed out. If the shot is exposed too short the photograph will appear too dark. Almost all cameras today have light meters which measure the light in the given shot and set an ideal exposure automatically. Most people depend on the light meter which is fine, but if you know how to control your exposures you can get some creative and sometimes better pictures. (The photo below is with low shutter speed and narrow aperture (high f/stop).
The two primary controls your camera uses for exposure are shutter speed (the amount of time the sensor is exposed to light) and aperture (the size of the lens opening that lets light into the camera). Shutter speeds are measured in seconds and more commonly fractions of a second. (1/2000 of a second is very fast and 8' seconds is extremely slow). Apertures are measured in something called f/stops (a very wide aperture is f/2.8 and a very small aperture is f/19).

Where did it go? The summer went by so fast! It has been a great summer for us and we hope you had a great one also. I spent the summer with a lot of hardworking and happy Ezell’s Girls. They were a joy to work with this year. I also saw lots of happy 2009 Seniors and got to photograph a lot of them. I believe we had the best group of employees and seniors this summer than ever before!
Now school is back in session and it is time to take football, cheerleading, softball, cross country, volleyball, band and underclass pictures. We also get to go outside and have fun for a couple of months. As some of you know, action pictures are something I really enjoy.
Parents – in August and September your student at Alcovy, Eastside, Heritage, Newton, Salem, Davis and Edwards will be having their underclass pictures taken. You can find the dates on our calendar below. You can also print an order form by clicking here. Please remember we have always and will continue to do our best to get you a very good school picture. We do appreciate your help. Make sure your student wears something that will look good in photographs. Solid white t-shirts, writing on shirts, wrinkles, spots and holes don’t look very nice. It really does make a difference. Also, if you ask your child to just give a pleasant look, we will take care of the rest. We want to get you a good school picture and look forward to the opportunity.
Be sure to look for your athletes and spectators on our website under Online Viewing and your school/event. We take thousands and thousands of pictures and hope you take the time to check them out.
Thank you very much for your words of encouragement and your continued support.
Sincerely,
Ezell's Staff 2008

James Barry We had the pleasure of meeting James at a wedding in December 2006 and that led to a continuing relationship as a photographer with Ezell’s Studios. James is a native of Gwinnett County now living in Milledgeville, where he graduated from Georgia College with a Biology Degree. Later realizing his passion for photography, he started his own photography business doing weddings and sporting tournaments. James has a love of photography, scuba diving, & traveling. James has been employed with Ezell’s Studios for the last two summers for his enjoyment and to increase his photography skills and knowledge. James is an outstanding young man with a great work ethic, personality, photography skills and a creative eye. These are all things that make him a great fit here. We hope that James will continue to want to grow with Ezell’s Studios.
