Black & White Photography

Choosing A Subject: Some subjects lend themselves to color but are not nearly so effective in black and white. For example, sunset photographs rely on the color of a great sky for their impact, and rarely produce a good black and white image. Colorful birds, flowers, fashion... there are many times when the only logical approach is to shoot your subject in color. On the other hand, some subjects are ideally suited to black and white photography.

Because this is an 'old-fashioned' medium, it often works well with old-fashioned subjects. Rustic items like old farm equipment, a tumble-down shack, an old wooden fence can all be great subjects for black and white photos.

When photographing people, age can also be a factor. A close-up portrait of an aged face showing all the lines and creases of their years on earth can have much greater impact in black and white.

I hope things are well in your household. God got Ezell’s Studios through 2008 in pretty good shape. We are very eager to get started in 2009 and are starting with a positive outlook and attitude.  We have confirmed with all but one of our schools that we will be their photographer for the 2009-2010 school year. The last school’s principal was new last year and I feel we have done a good job for them and they will be on board going forward also. There is a new middle school opening in Newton County this fall and as soon as they announce their principal, we will be contacting them as well. I thoroughly enjoy working with the students and staff at our schools. They know they can come to us with all their needs and appreciate the great pictures that make up their yearbooks.

In October and November of last year we started a new endeavor for us. Church directories. The finished product for both First Baptist Church of Conyers and Crossroads United Methodist will be delivered to their members this month. In 2008 our graphic designers Kristen and Melissa embarked on two new projects for Ezell’s Studios.  They now do the layout and design for two magazines and have been given high praise by the respective owners for their creativity, quality and timely delivery.

I tell you all this to let you know business out there is tough but not impossible.

As you can tell we are going in new avenues.  The main reason is to be proactive as a well rounded company meeting more of your needs. The other reason is defensive trying to add sales to keep afloat in this economy.

Now that you have heard of all of this, the first quarter of each year is always the slowest and this year is no different.  So I am asking you, our faithful customer, if you are not feeling the pinch and you have put off buying your senior’s pictures, wedding pictures, family pictures or action pictures, this would be a great time to come see us. To help you out, we are offering a 20% off coupon in this newsletter for any new orders.

Last but not least we are starting what we expect to be a new tradition and that is Ezell’s Top Model. The idea came from Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model show which is very popular. Also many of our seniors comment that their senior portrait session reminds them of being on the show. We are very excited about the reaction we’ve received from the community and the sponsors donating prizes as well as the judges. By the way all three judges have expressed an interest in offering some of our contestants an opportunity to walk in a fashion show or other modeling opportunities. The winner is guaranteed this but others will have a chance also. Casting call; photos are next week, January 19 – January 24, the cost for this is $10 plus a can of food. Rockdale Emergency Relief will receive ½ the money and the food to help those in need. For more information about Ezell’s Top Model, please click here.

Thank you for allowing Ezell’s to meet your photography needs. We appreciate you very much.

Sincerely,

The Hicks Family

Every photographer dreams of having a customer like this. A customer with lots of girls and a love of pictures. A customer that becomes a good friend. I know you are thinking that this sounds a lot like Melanie and Jimmy Hicks along with their girls Lauren, Erin and Kristen. This great family has grown by 3 since we started photographing them.  They have added 2 sons in law, Jason and Beau and now the center of attention, Aiden.

We have been blessed to be with this family through high school cheerleading, proms, senior portraits, family portraits, two weddings, maternity session and baby pictures. This is a relationship that we cherish and believe they feel the same about us. This is the kind of customer that keeps me going, looking for the next Hicks family. Next month I hope to share with you another wonderful family.
